The Western Cape area in South Africa is not one of the most widely visited tourists spots in the world without reason. There's an incredible amount to see and to do in this region. Cape Town is surrounded by a number of historical towns. The nearest one is Stellenbosch with its university and student life. Further afield you will find Paarl and Franschoek and the seaside resorts of the Western and South Western Cape are all within no more than two hour's drive from the city.

As far as accommodation go, this area is well prepared for the yearly tourist influx. If a five star hotel is your preferred type of accommodation, Cape Town has more than its fair share of world class hotels. You will find them everywhere, from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town to the beach towns of the Western and Southern Cape.

The majority of tourists will be looking for mid-range accommodation and the Western Cape is well provided for in this respect. Hostels is not a new phenomenon to South Africa, but they have really come into their own during the past two decades. There are now literally hundreds of them all over the Western Cape.
