Why You Would Visit Bicester, Oxfordshire
Just located one hour from London the capital city of England, lies Bicester - Oxfordshire, this vibrant town is full of life but firstly lets look at the history of the town.
There's been records of a town in the area since Saxon times and it's been known by it's modern day name since the middle of the 17th century. While it's not certain how it got it's name it's commonly thought that it was due to a nearby Roman settlement which had two forts in it, which gives us the Latin name of Bi-cester which literally means Two Forts.
A cluster of traditional buildings were built in the 16th century and luckily they are still standing today, the Parish Church of St Edburg and the Market Square to name just two but it's plain to see lots more when you visit.
Bicester is a real tourist trap because its very near Oxford city which means you can easily go on a day trip to the town from there. When you visit the town in summer, you'll be able to go on a walk which is guided by an expert on the local history and these happen between June and August.
The quaint town is also full of interesting small shops, restaurants, traditional English pubs and has a great quintessential British feel to it. There are also many places of interest to visit on the edge of the town like Rousham Park House and Garden and Bicester Airfield which has some cracking examples of pre second world war control towers which is well worth a visit.
Another place to visit is the world famous Waddeson Manor which is internationally known for it's fine collection of decorative arts from the French 18th century. It was built by Baron Ferdinand 130 years ago just in order to entertain his friends. You'll find magnificent furniture, exquisite portraitist and fine gardens at the manor which all point to why it's such an attraction for tourists.
Bicester also has it's modern attractions with the Bicester Village which has become a centre for outlet shopping for 100 mile radius. It's compiled of 130 lifestyle, fashion and bargain shops and it brings in visitors by their thousands, it has something for virtually everyone.
